The festive season is upon us and with Christmas just a couple of weeks away, it’s time to bust out those red hats and watch our favourite Christmas movies. Now, there are new movies released during the season every year, but at this no deposit mobile casino, we have to admit that we are massive fans of the classics.
We’re going to take a look at the best timeless Christmas movies to pop on the screen while you play online games.
Elf (2003)
Will Ferrell has an almost cult-like comedy following and is known for his rather vulgar roles, but in Elf, he turns out his most earnest and likeable character to date. This light-hearted Christmas movie, directed by Jon Favreau, follows Ferrell (who is one of Santa’s elves) as he travels to New York to find his biological father. Buddy (Ferrell) spends the movie restlessly trying to spread Christmas cheer throughout the city, despite coming up against some grumpy opponents. This might not be an Oscar-worthy Christmas film, but it has exactly the right amount of comedy, heartwarming moments, and festive cheer to make it a classic.
Home Alone (1990)
Chances are that you enjoy a spot of the best online slots while you’re home alone. However, Macaulay Culkin spent his time creating elaborate traps to trip up intruders. Home Alone is undoubtedly one of the most famous Christmas movies out there, and it was the inspiration for many sore shins as children attempted to copy Culkin’s elaborate traps. The ending is a bit cheesy, but of course, that’s what Christmas is all about after all.
The Holiday (2006)
A movie with Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslett, Jack Black, and Jude Law as the main cast was bound to be a hit, but few could have foreseen just how popular The Holiday became. Two unhappy women (Diaz and Winslett) house swap over the festive period. One ends up in California and the other in the other in a small village in the UK. Inevitably, they both end up falling for local men and their return home threatens to ruin the newfound relationships. This is a light-hearted comedy with delightful Christmas cheer that is bound to put a smile on your face.
Love Actually (2003)
Perhaps the most popular Christmas movie in modern times, Love Actually is certainly worth taking a break from casino games to watch. With a star-studded cast with the likes of Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley, Alan Rickman, Colin Firth, Bill Nighy, Emma Thompson, and Rowan Atkinson (to name just a few) this British romantic comedy was bound to be a firm favourite. The film follows the lives of all the different characters through the festive season as they navigate love, life, work, and heartbreak in their own unique way.
Scrooged (1988)
Every generation has its take on A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. In this 1988 version, Scrooged stars Bill Murray as the main character. Of course, it follows along the lines of Dickens’ book and Murray plays Frank Cross, a cynical and selfish TV executive. The man is completely devoid of Christmas cheer and that’s why a whole host of ghosts visit him on Christmas Eve, intent on getting him to rediscover his Christmas spirit. This is a Christmas comedy-fantasy that has become a festive season staple over the years.
The Santa Clause (1994)
If it’s a Christmas comedy-drama that you’re after, then look no further than The Santa Clause. Tim Allen plays the main character Scott Calvin, who is a normal man going about his business when he accidentally causes Santa Claus to fall through his roof on Christmas Eve. Scott and his son Charlie have to take the reins and finish St. Nick’s present deliveries and then head to the North Pole. Here, Scott learns that he must become the new Santa, and he has to prove to his loved ones that he is, in fact, Santa Claus.
A Christmas Story(1983)
Undoubtedly a Christmas classic, A Christmas Story stars Melinda Dillon, Darren McGavin, and Peter Billingsley. The story revolves around Ralphie Parker, who is reminiscing on his favourite Christmas ever. As a nine-year-old, all he wanted was an air rifle, but his mum, his teacher and even the department store Santa told him he would shoot his eye out.
On Christmas morning, he initially doesn’t receive the air rifle, but his dad eventually gives it to him and he runs out to go shoot at targets. The bullet ricochets off a metal sign and hits his glasses onto the ground and he inevitably stands on them and breaks them, all the while thinking he had been shot in the eye. This is a light-hearted comedy Christmas movie that revolves around the pure joy that we see in children at this time of year.
