It’s thought that April Fools’ Day started all the way back in 1582 when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar. The new year, which had been celebrated at the time of the spring equinox on 1 April, was moved to 1 January on the Gregorian calendar. But it seems some people never got the memo that the new year date had moved and went ahead with their 1st of April new year celebrations. These people were called “April fools.”
Hundreds of years later, the day is celebrated around the world by trying to prank those around you. Whether you’re a certified prankster of note or you’ve been pranked one too many times and want to get your own back, this year’s the time to do it with one of our prank ideas. After you’ve managed to pull off your prank on the day, you can sit back and relax with our best online slots that have a joker theme, which you can play at our no deposit, free spins mobile casino. Let’s get you started!
Lamp bugs
This prank works especially well if you have someone in the house who absolutely hates bugs! Find silhouettes of bugs online (cockroaches and spiders are a solid choice), print, and cut them out. You could also draw some bugs if you’re able to. Next, stick them to the inside of lampshades around the house. When they’re turned on, your prankee will see the scary silhouettes of large creepy crawlies on the inside of the lampshades! If you can find a way to get the person you’re pranking to switch on the lamps themselves, even better.
Scary soap and bubbles
Staying close to home, pranking roommates, or your nearest and dearest is always easier when brains are foggy from sleep, and their thoughts are turning to the day ahead. In other words, early in the morning.
First, place bubble wrap under a rug or bathmat. When they step onto the disguised bubble wrap, the sound of sharp pops underfoot will get the heart racing quicker than a shot of caffeine ever could. Follow up by painting the top of their shower wash with clear nail polish, then watch or listen as they desperately try to flip open the lid that simply won’t budge for no apparent reason!
The other door, please
Moving to the office, attach a sign that reads, “Door is broken, use other door,” to all the entrances and exit doors. Make sure the arrows point left, right, up and down. This prank is even better if you manage to video your colleagues as they run around in circles trying to find a usable door. This works a treat on that coworker who is almost always late for work.
The seat airhorn
Staying in the office, raise a colleague’s adjustable seat to the height you know will be uncomfortable for them. Position an air horn just below the seat by taping it to the central chair column. Air horns look like an aerosol can with a plastic horn or trumpet attached to a small air chamber and can be bought online or in shops. Then watch as the unsuspecting colleague presses the lever to lower the seat and is greeted with a blaring horn as the seat drops.
Key switch
Another amusing April Fools’ Day office trick is to switch around the “M” and “N” keys on computer keyboards. Gently ease them off with a screwdriver and swap them around. Watch the confusion as the person keeps misspelling words that contain an M or N. These letters not only look alike, they’re located next to each other on the keyboard, so it might take some time before they realise what the problem is.
Topsy-turvy screens
Here’s one that will turn a colleague’s day upside down! Once you’ve chosen who you’ll prank, and they’ve turned on their computer, lure them away by asking them to fetch something for you, for instance. Then use the keyboard shortcut CTRL + ALT + Down arrow if they’re using Windows (or if they’re on a Mac, go to System Preferences, hold Command and Option while clicking on Display, and hit the “180” option). This will turn their computer screen upside down. While this prank can be easily reversed, it’s incredibly funny to watch the person trying to read how to set the world to rights again on an upside-down screen!
Is that Wally?
You’ll need a group of people to pull off this April Fools joke. Starting early on the morning of 1 April, get people to call the person you’re pranking and have them ask for Wally. Every 30 minutes, a different person calls, asking, “Can I speak to Wally?” Then, towards the end of the day, call the person and say, “Hi, this is Wally. Have there been any calls for me?”
The no prank prank
Weeks before 1 April, start talking to your nearest and dearest about all the pranks you’re going to pull on the day. Tell them you have big April Fools plans and that you have some crazy tricks up your sleeve that are going to totally freak them out. Then when the day finally dawns, sit back and watch them anxiously wait for the prank that never comes! This one’s a scream because there’s no end to the consternation you can cause on April Fools’ Day.
