How To Play Blackjack

The aim of online blackjack is for the player to get a total hand value of 21 or a hand that’s a higher value than the dealer’s without going above 21. If you go above 21, you go “bust” and lose the game and your wager. Each card is worth its pip value, while face cards (king, queen, and jack) are worth 10. An ace is worth both one or 11, depending on what the player or dealer needs.

When a game of online blackjack begins, each player must place their bets. After betting is completed, the dealer will deal each player and themselves one card facing up. The dealer will then deal each player another card facing up but will deal a card to themselves facing down.

The action continues with the players first. A player may say “hit” to request another card or “stay” to keep their current hand. This starts with the player furthest on the left and moves to the right. This process continues until all players either “stay” or have gone “bust”.

Once the dealer has resolved the players’ turns, they must reveal their face-down card. If it is 17 or more, they cannot take a card. If it is 16 or less, they must take a card until their hand is worth 17 or more, at which point they must stop taking cards. If the dealer has an ace and cards that raise the hand’s value to more than 17, then the ace is always worth 11.

If a player or dealer receives a hand worth 21 from their first two cards, this is called a natural or blackjack, and they automatically win the game.
