Top Gambling Songs To Add to Your Playlist

When you’re playing casino games online, the right playlist can help you elevate the mood and atmosphere and take your gambling session from a few casual games of chance to a truly epic gambling experience. Take a look at our list of five incredible gambling-themed songs that cover a variety of genres, including rock, country and folk music that will make your session playing online slots in the UK even more exciting.

1. Gamblin’ Man – Lonnie Donegan, 1957

This song by Lonnie Donegan comes from a genre referred to as “skiffle”, or a kind of folk music with a strong jazz element. If you’re on a roll, there’s no doubt that “Gamblin’ Man” by Lonnie Donegan can keep you in high spirits. The song starts off with something vaguely resembling a story about a gambler and a woman he fell in love with, but the plot soon goes out the window. This song really ramps things up towards the end with the almost-constant repetition of the chorus. What this song lacks in creativity, it makes up for with sheer grit and energy. It’s definitely a beat that will grab you and have you moving about until it reaches its final explosive crescendo!

2. Viva Las Vegas – Elvis, 1964

Even if you’re not a fan of the King of Rock and Roll, this catchy rock song from Elvis is known all across the world. “Viva Las Vegas” was originally written for the Elvis film of the same name and has gone on to become one of his most popular hits. It’s essentially an ode to Sin City and everything it has to offer. Elvis sings about why he loves Vegas and how it’s a city he’s going to give everything to. This song has a rhythm that’s bound to make you feel upbeat every time you spin the reels or roll the dice.

3. Go Down Gamblin’ – Blood, Sweat & Tears, 1971

A person in a sequined red dress holds a drink and rolls dice on a casino table cluttered with casino chips and cash.

“Go Down Gamblin’” is an entrancing song from Blood, Sweat & Tears, a jazz-rock band that was founded in 1967. They may not be a household name, but you might recognise this tune or some of their other hits, including “And When I Die”, “Spinning Wheel” and “You’ve Made Me Very Happy”.

When you read the lyrics to “Go Down Gamblin”, it may come off as a bit pessimistic. After all, it opens with the lyrics “Born a natural loser I can’t recall just where”, and as the song carries on, there’s no doubt that this is a man who’s been unlucky more often than not. However, despite this, gambling and life haven’t broken him yet, even when they’ve thrown their worst at him. In this way, it’s strangely optimistic and is definitely the kind of tune you want if luck is looking the other way.

4. When You’re Hot, You’re Hot – Jerry Reed, 1971

If you’re a fan of craps, then “When You’re Hot, You’re Hot” is a must for your gambling playlist. This is a song by country singer and Country Music Hall of Fame member Jerry Reed that tells the tale of a dice player who’s on top of the world. That is until a lawman arrives to shuffle him and his friends off to explain their illegal gambling to a judge. Much to the gambler’s surprise, the judge is an old friend of his, but things go from hot to cold when he tries to bribe the judge with money that he owed him anyway!

This is a song that is country through and through, which is why it’s not surprising that Reed took home the Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance with this song in the same year the song was released.

5. The Gambler – Kenny Rogers, 1978

Another Country Music Hall of Fame member that most people will recognise (even if they hate country) is Kenny Rogers. While Rogers had an incredibly successful solo career, many people outside of the country music community likely recognise him for his work with other musicians like Dolly Parton and Sheena Easton.

But gamblers likely know Rogers for “The Gambler”, a country song with a simple but catchy tune about a young man who meets a gambler on a train and the advice that the gambler shares with him. The gambler very quickly picks up that the young man is down on his luck and gives him some life-changing advice in exchange for his last bit of whiskey and a cigarette. His words of wisdom pretty much boil down to learning which hands to keep and which ones to throw away, both in the game of poker and, very likely, in life.

While “The Gambler” was much beloved, it only took home a Grammy in 1980. This song became the foundation for multiple television movies called “The Gambler” starring Rogers himself.
