Evolution
Formerly known as Evolution Gaming, Evolution first launched live casino games all the way back in 2006, only one year after the launch of YouTube! Evolution was clearly ahead of the curve on live dealer games since internet infrastructure was much slower compared to the speeds that we have today, and gaming devices, while growing increasingly powerful, were also in a similar position.
In fact, mobile gaming devices such as smartphones and tablets hadn’t even come into existence back then, but Evolution saw the potential of its new-genre idea and launched into a predominantly PC-focused casino gaming market. However, it was only six years later that Evolution would launch its first dedicated mobile gaming service, a clear sign that mobile gaming was undoubtedly becoming a more important platform for casino gaming.
Between 2013 and today, Evolution expanded rapidly, and opened live casino studios all over Europe, including in Spain, Malta, Belgium and Romania, as well as in the US state of Pennsylvania. In 2020, the company bought NetEnt, NetEnt Casino, and Red Tiger; this was followed by the purchase of Big Time Gaming in 2021, all of which further cemented Evolution’s position as a casino gaming development powerhouse.
Over the years, the company has also won numerous awards, including Live Casino Supplier of the Year, which it has won more than 10 times!

Eyecon
Eyecon started in 1997 as a computer game developer before switching its focus to digital casino games in 1999, focusing primarily on slots. Just four years later, it released Temple of Isis, a game that, according to its YouTube video, “Introduction to Eyecon – a brief history of excellence”, has remained one of its top five favourite games ever since. The company followed up with the first of its mega-popular “Fluffy” series of games in 2006, Fluffy Favourites.
Fast-forward to 2015, and Eyecon launched its European hub in Guernsey. The ongoing success of this developer caught the eye of Playtech, which decided to acquire the company in 2017.
Since it began more than 20 years ago, Eyecon has grown and now has two major offices: one in Brisbane, Australia; and the other in Alderney in the Channel Islands. Slingo Originals
Undoubtedly one of the most interesting company histories belongs to Slingo Originals. Slingo, a hybrid game that takes the best elements of slots and combines them with bingo, first came to life in the early 1990s as a physical prototype, before being developed into a computer game and launched on (then) popular online gaming services offered by AOL and Microsoft, and more recently, Facebook. The game was also released as a stand-alone CD-ROM game, and would also feature releases on handheld consoles including the Nintendo DS.
However, Slingo was always destined to be a casino game, and it wasn’t long before the “family business” was signing deals with casino game manufacturers to get its exciting game into casinos across the world. The company would even release scratchcards based on its much-loved gaming concept.
The biggest step forward in the life of Slingo Originals came in 2015 after another powerhouse company – the aforementioned Gaming Realms – bought rights to the Slingo intellectual property. Since then, the Slingo Originals team has gone on to develop and release a number of exciting Slingo titles; it has also partnered with other exciting franchises and casino developers to launch more exciting Slingo games, with the aim of reaching an even greater audience of players.

WMS/Scientific Games
WMS Gaming, now wholly owned by Scientific Games, is another company that has an incredibly long history in the casino and gaming industry. In the past, the company has been involved in the production of pinball machines, video game arcades, and of course, both physical and digital casino games. WMS, originally known as Williams, rebranded in 1988 after it purchased Bally Manufacturing Company’s pinball and video arcade game manufacturing unit. Just three years later, the company started to develop video lottery terminals, followed by other casino games a year later, in 1992.
The company would go on to have numerous successes, including a partnership with video game giant Nintendo, but it was WMS’ 1997 hit, Reel Em In, that motivated its continued shift towards producing casino-focused gaming content. As time went on, WMS continued to develop more physical and digital casino games, but it was only in 2012 that the company channelled more of its resources into developing mobile and online casino games.
A year later, Scientific Games saw the potential displayed by WMS and purchased the developer for $1.5 billion – not bad for a company that once made pinball games and video arcade cabinets!
